A blast from the past!….

There is not a week goes by without some kind of musical entertainment being held in Orchard House. There’s nothing our lovely residents like better than a good concert and a singalong. This week we got a visit from ‘Buddy Holly’. Lots of classic songs that took everyone back to a time when rock and roll was in its infancy.

We should never forget that it was probably our residents and others like them who were doing their thing and creating new dances and styles, long before any of us were born. Judging by their reaction to Buddy Holly tunes they still have plenty of moves left in them!

A fab musical event!

Seen around Ruddington…..

Our Bus advertising has certainly been noticed by people in Ruddington. These pictures were sent to us by someone recently who noticed them as he was delivering in the area.

He thought they were quite striking so sent them to us. We think they look great. Is there anyone else out there who has seen our bus adverts recently?

Stimulating words….

Here at Balmore House we are always thinking of new things for our lovely residents to take part in. We have recently started a Poem of the week activity where residents are encouraged to read the poem and reflect on its meaning and talk about it amongst themselves.

Here are some pictures of Irene,, Bryan, Eunice, and some more of our residents really enjoying reading the poem. Judging by their reaction we are sure this will become a firm favourite in the home

Clickety Click!….

Legs Eleven, Key to the Door and many other Bingo calls could be heard in St Peters last Saturday. In what is always a popular event our lovely residents took part in a great Bingo session.

A surprisingly competitive event, there were plenty of calls of line and house and Bingo!

It was great fun and enjoyed by all who took part!

Top tips for keeping cool…..

With the Met Office issuing a Red Warning about severe temperatures over the next few days, we will be making sure that all our clients are keeping themselves as cool as possible. Here are just a few suggestions as to how you save yourself from heat exhaustion, or worse heatstroke.

1) Try and stay out of direct sunlight. Sit in the shade – or go indoors regularly. If you do have to go outside in the sun make sure you wear a hat and loose fitting clothing.

2) Drink plenty of fluids. Water is best at replacing fluids lost through sweating and dehydration. Try and avoid alcohol and caffeine.

3) Cool your skin at regular intervals. Wearing wet T-Shirt or neckerchief can help you keep cool. Alternatively take a cool shower every so often and let your skin dry naturally. Running your wrists under cold water can also help you feel cool.

4) Eat light, nutritious meals, ideally with ingredients containing plenty of water. Cucumber, berries, melon, apples etc are all good sources of water.

5) Don’t undertake strenuous activity in the heat of the day – wait till it’s cooler to go for a walk or to the Gym!

6) If you have one use a fan to help keep you cool and to circulate air around a room.

7) At the first sign of heatstroke try and cool yourself down fast. Problems can develop fast, so don’t delay in taking action – including dialling 999 if you feel really ill.

We hope that all of you stay safe at the beginning of next week and we will be doing our best to make sure all our clients are kept as cool as possible.

Enjoying the outdoors….

Everyone at St Peter’s loves to be able to get out in the gardens, and so far the Summer weather is obliging. They have really enjoyed the sunshine and warm temperatures and taken every opportunity to be outdoors.

Coupled with some cooling drinks, some shade and the odd ice cream or two, it’s the perfect recipe for a great Summer’s Day!

Smiling with Sophie…

Our lovely residents at St Peter’s always look forward to their exercise sessions with Sophie from GFitness.

They provide services to care homes which include group exercise sessions with content such as movement to music, strength and mobility work, balance and falls prevention, and brain games to promote cognitive stimulation.

They are great fun to take part in and excellent for promoting the good health of all our residents.

Lots of fun….

That’s what Orchard House is all about, and to make sure our lovely residents enjoy themselves we put on a wide variety of entertainment with something to suit everyone. Recently we had a really fun singing duo complete with whacky costumes! They really got everyone laughing and joining in with the singing.

Lots of clapping and generally fun all round – a great session!
