Gearing Up for Christmas….

Here at Ruddington Retirement Village we have been decorating the entrance and reception area of our lovely apartment complex. Thanks to everyone for their hard work to make it look so festive. We are particularly proud of our tree which looks great when all lit up.

We hope you enjoy putting up your decorations this year.

Congratulations Rachael…

Here’s a lovely picture of our terrific senior staff member Rachael, who was November’s Employee of the Month. The reason Rachael was chosen for the award is that she goes the extra mile for each resident, and always taking time to engage with them. She is also great at liaising with families and external professional bodies.

All in all a great member of our team here at Orchard House!

A Fantastic Evening…..

If you ever wanted to know community spirit was about then all you need to do was to go to the Rudd Awards last Friday evening. Held at St Peter’s Church in the heart of the village, and organised by the Ruddington Village Community Partnership, they showcased and celebrated the very best of the village of Ruddington. My Care and Ruddington Retirement Village were proud to be the Community Group category sponsor and were there to see the awards being presented.

The winners were the Ruddington Yarn Ninjas. In addition to making knitted blankets for premature babies and for end-of-life care, judges noted the many respondents highlighting that “This group brings JOY!!”, lifting the spirits of both the knitters and everyone who sees their work around the village.

Emma Scott from Ruddington’s Yarn Ninjas, said: “On behalf of all of our hardworking, talented yarn ninjas, we are thrilled to receive such fantastic recognition with this award. We couldn’t have imagined when we started just over a year ago, that the wonderful Ruddington community would enjoy our displays so much. A big thank you from us all.”

Big congratulations must also go to the Runner’s Up, the Ruddington Community Choir, and the highly commended Ruddington Pantry.

Finally a huge thank you to everyone who organised a fantastic evening that showed why Ruddington is such a great place to work and live.

Musical Remembrance…..

As part of Balmore House’s Remembrance Week events we were delighted to welcome regular Balmore visitors Kevin and Marie back to the home to give us a terrific Remembrance themed show. Great costumes, great music and lotos of our residents really enjoyed joining in the songs.

It was a lovely event, thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Happy Birthday Freda…

It’s not often you get to celebrate a 101st Birthday, but that’s exactly what our lovely Balmore House resident Freda did recently. She had a lovely day surrounded by family members spanning several generations. She had a terrific cake and lots of presents and cards. It was lovely to see her with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, celebrating her special day.

We are sure she really enjoyed herself and here’s to celebrating 102 next year!

What a great start…..

We always love welcoming a new resident here at St Peter’s, and what better way to do it than celebrate a Birthday. New resident Poldi celebrated her 103rd (yes you read that right, although she told us she was 21!)) Birthday last week and it was a fantastic way to get to know her.

There were lots of balloons, a cake, singing and dancing, and the day was enjoyed by everyone. Poldi would like to say thank you for her special welcome and to everyone who made her day so special.

Remembering Creatively….

At Balmore House our lovely residents enjoyed making preparations for last week’s Remembrance events and services. They were also joined by the team from Creative Paths, a company that specialises in providing fun, beneficial, and meaningful creative activity services and learning to older adults living in care homes and care settings.

Everyone at Balmore thoroughly enjoyed the presentations and making of poppy wreaths and other decorations for the home.

An important week…..

This week sees Remembrance Day take place ad it is always of great importance to our residents here at Balmore House. They look forward to decorating the home and joining in the celebrations and remembering the fallen of the two World Wars and other conflicts. So this week they have been hard at work making the home look its best for the services and events we will hold.

We think they have done a terrific job.

Bonfire Night Party….

At Orchard House we certainly know how to party. So it was no surprise that everyone was determined to have a great time for Fireworks night this year. It was lovely to see so many friends and family members of our residents enjoying themselves as well as staff members – to whom a big thank you for organising everything, including some great catering. There was quite a spectacular display in the back garden of the home, and lots of sparklers for people and younger ones to enjoy.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening and went home with lots of great memories.

Looking back at Halloween..

Residents and staff at St.Peter’s had a great time over the past weekend getting ready for Halloween.

The witches of Ruddington have been working their magic on plenty of pumpkins this week, carving the most ghoulish creations possible. As the sign on the door now reads…’Enter St. Peter’s if you dare’, …this is one Halloween that has certainly provided us with a lot of fun and laughs.
